Club History – St James’s Gate F.C.

Foundations & Early Success

  • Founded in 1902, initially linked to the Guinness Athletic Union at St James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin.

  • Rose to prominence by 1909-10, winning the Leinster Senior League and the Irish Intermediate Cup.

League of Ireland Origins

  • A founding member of the League of Ireland in 1921-22.

  • In that inaugural season, the club won the league title, the FAI Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup—a remarkable treble.

Later Years & Legacy

  • Won their second League of Ireland title in 1939-40.

  • After 1943-44 the club failed to be re-elected to the League of Ireland and subsequently moved into regional competitions.

  • Continued as an active club in the Leinster Senior League and remains a respected part of Irish football history.
