Castlefinn Celtic FC History

Castlefinn Celtic FC was founded in 1982 and is based in Castlefinn, County Donegal.

The football club originally competed in the old ‘Hospital League’ in Letterkenny for its first six years before joining the Donegal League in 1988. The team saw early success when they won Division 3 in their debut season and claimed the Area Final of the FAI Junior Cup against Ardara Town in the same season.

The club has always placed people at the centre of its ethos, from celebrating youth success to honouring former players with memorial tournaments, such as the Damien Brolly Cup.

Castlefinn Celtic FC Home Grounds

Since 1992, the football club has been based at Ballybun and has been steadily developing their facilities ever since. The grounds now feature multiple pitches, including a fully floodlit pitch for evening training and fixtures.

Clubrooms were completed in 2002, while an astroturf pitch was added in 2016 thanks to funding support from the Department of Sport and Donegal County Council.

Club Achievements & Key Players

1989/90: Secured Division 2 and gained promotion to the top tier of Donegal Junior Football.
2008/09: Won Donegal Under-16 Champions League title
2019: The senior side lifted the Donegal Premier Division title for the first time.

Playing in green and white kit, Castlefinn Celtic FC has produced players who have gone on to play at higher levels. Notable names include Barry Tourish, Ciaran Gallagher, Raymond Foy, and Tanya Kennedy, all of whom went on to gain full international caps.
